Adequate, proper, effective and efficient legislation from grassroots to National level cannot at this point of our National history be over emphasized.
As a young, vibrant and astute speaker, model and a promising legislator per excellence, she further reiterate her commitment to grassroots reorientation about law making and the makers and governance as a system.
Hon. Adebayo Motunrayo Adetola being the guest lecturer of the legislative arm of the National Association of Agricultural Students of the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta discussed on the topic "adequate legislative representation a way out of social vices and national instability" herein attached is an highlight of the Presentation.
In her Presentation, legislature is a unique institution in a democratic setting, composed of elected representatives of the people. It occupies a prominent position in modern democracies.
According to the Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU), legislators represents all parts of their society or constituents – including men and women, minorities and marginalized groups and therefore, adequate representation implies “articulating and mediating between the competing interests of these groups” as well as, guaranteeing equal rights for all.
Thus, the legislature is expected to act as the ears and voice of the people as it listens to them and articulates their views, yearnings and aspirations into good laws and/or government policies.
She further highlight what social vices are with Nigeria as a case study, social vice is a practice, behavior, or habit generally considered immoral, sinful, criminal rude, taboo, depraved or degrading in the associated society.
In Nigeria, a sudden twist and trend toward the use of vice to acquire power and wealth took its toll during the early ’90 this began through formation of dubious bank which drained investible money from the citizen, when this began to diminish another one took place nicknamed 419 which is simply a scam, it didn’t take long hard drugs crept in, Nigerians were embarrassed all over the world and are tagged drug pushers.
Those without sufficient knowledge, skills or finances went into armed robbery. Thus assassination crowned it all as the byproduct of dispute and clashes of interest, corruption of public officer. Ostentatious display of wealth became the order of the day and eroded the ethics of working hard in the society, the resulting mindset that working hard do not pay overwhelmed our morals, workers become corrupt and fraud took over our corporate system.
All these create a huge gap between the rich and the poor as (Human trafficking (Libya case), ritual killing, rape, examination malpractice among others became order of the day.
Causes
Unemployment, Policies that do not favor the masses, bad policies,Growing population and no provision for expansion to accommodate the ever growing population, Education system degradation, Culprits are left to flee Corruption, Overpriced political office, Abolition of other income generating produce in the economy (cocoa, palm oil, textile),
Sole dependency on crude oil, importation of virtually everything we use, domestically or industrially, which dither encouragement for local produce.
How adequate representation can curb social vices and promote national stability

Identifying the felt need of the people as a legislator and work towards achieving it.

Legislators should strive to ensure that policies and programmes stated are achieved with specified outcomes and transparent monitoring.

Create economic activities through re-awakening of our commerce and industries without depending solely on crude oil.
Active participation of youths in governance among others.
Conclusively, she thanked the organizers of the event for serving as grassroots change agents, for a better, more developed, growth and result oriented today and tomorrow for all Nigerians, it has to begin with you and I and this is an impressive and commendable step towards attainment of that.
